A text message is a text composed with a limited amount of characters (letters, numbers, symbols, and spaces). Usually 160 characters is the max for one message, after that it turns into two messages, etc.

I have a smart phone. Texting on a smart phone usually sends just one message despite how much you've typed. When you compose a new text message on a smart phone, it tells you how many characters the text message is and how many messages you would be sending.

I just sent 2,525 character 17 page message to one person.

For VZW (Verizon Wireless) Members, The max text message you can send is 1000 Characters. (to other VZW members and 160 to Non VZW Members)

Oh, dude, the longest text message ever sent was probably like a super long rant about someone's day or a novel-length breakup message. People can get pretty chatty over text, you know? But hey, as long as it's under the character limit, text away!

The longest text message ever sent was a 10,000 character message sent by an iPhone user in 2011. This message was sent using a third-party app that allowed for longer messages than the standard 160-character limit. The message was sent as a test to see if the app could handle such a large amount of text.
