Shoeplay is the removal of or playing with shoes, especially in public places, and is the sexual focus of shoeplay fetishists. Shoeplay fetishists largely prefer to watch shoeplay rather than indulging in the activity themselves.

The action of shoeplay can be seen as comprising seven key motion types: removal, where the shoe is simply taken off; dipping, where the foot is 'dipped' into and out of a removed shoe; dangling, where the shoe is dangled from an elevated foot; dropping, where the shoe is allowed to fall from an elevated foot; heel popping, where the heel is 'popped' out of and into the back of the shoe; balancing, where the removed shoe is tipped up by the foot; and twirling, where the removed shoe is 'twirled' round by the foot.

Shoeplay fetishists often have a preference for motion types, as well as for shoe types (high heels are common), sock or hosiery types (or, indeed, barefoot), and so forth. A shoeplay fetish can be part of a broader shoe or foot fetish, but is not necessarily. While shoeplay fetishists will tend to prefer shoeplay performed by the gender(s) in line with their sexual orientation, often they will find any shoeplay arousing.

Although research into the shoeplay fetish is minimal, due perhaps to the self-perpetuating silence surrounding what is perceived as sexual deviance, the online popularity of shoeplay websites and videos indicates a significant proportion of the population takes interest in it.
