The more sympathetic we find a person the more likely we are to help this person. This mechanism plays significant role in everyday life for instance in sales. When making a purchase we are naturally more willing too buy something from a person we like more.

The factors that determine if we like someone are: the extend to which we find them psysically attractive, the similarities in the the background we share with them and if the act nice to to us.

We will like an attractive person that we identitify with faster then when this is not the case but we will eventually like everone that is nice to us for long enough.
