In a single stage steam turbine the steam is run through a nozzle to give it maximum velocity, thus the blades move at very high speeds, impractical for some applications, and only some of the energy is used, about 85-90%. In multi-stage or compound turbines the steam goes through a nozzle to increase its velocity, then after going through a set of blades, it is run through another nozzle to bring the steam back up to the correct velocity. After multiple stages there is no longer enough pressure left to up the velocity of the steam. This method increases the efficiency of the turbine and also decreases wear on the components caused by the high speed of a single stage.

What is steam turbine governor valve?

In large turbines, a valve controls steam flow to groups of nozzles. The number of open valves controls the number of nozzles in use according to the load. A bar-lift or cam arrangement operated by the governor opens and closes these valves in sequence. Such a device is a multi-port valve. Using nozzles at full steam pressure is more efficient than throttling the steam.

How vertical condensate extraction pump work?

CEP is a Multi stage vertical Centrifugal Pump having double suction impeller at 1st stage for higher efficiency and high flow rate .Pump operates at marginal difference between NASHa and NPSHr so pressure equalising line is provied at suction side .CEP suction is conected to Hotwell and above hotwell Vacuum is maintained as per turbine design. The purpose of CEP is transfer water to deaerator through LP heaters. Parag Agrawal 8102392375

How does a furnace multi speed motor work?

Mutli speed furnace motors work on a basis of horse power verses work load. The motor actually contains multiple windings or you could say multiple motors. Each of the windings has a specific horse power rating at a given work load. For example, a 3 speed 1/2 horse power motor is actually 3 different horse powers. High is 1/2 hp - medium is 1/3 hp - low is 1/4 hp. As the motor horse power is decreased the motor will slow down under a given or constant work load. Technically there is no such thing as a multi speed motor but in actuality a multi horse power motor.

What is one way that single-celled organisms are different from multi-celled organisms?

One way that single-celled organisms are different from multi-celled organisms is in their complexity. Single-celled organisms consist of just one cell, while multi-celled organisms are made up of multiple cells organized into specialized tissues, organs, and systems. This allows multi-celled organisms to perform more complex functions and have greater structural and functional diversity.
