when light passes through molecules of water it gets scattered in all direction and imparts color is called scatteing , for e.g .....blue color of the sky. when light passes through prism is called dispersion and will get a band of 7 color.

Scattering refers to the redirection of light waves in different directions by particles or structures, causing diffusion. Dispersion refers to the separation of light waves into different colors or wavelengths as they pass through a material, due to the varying speed of different wavelengths. In other words, scattering affects the direction of light while dispersion affects the wavelength distribution.

Is there a difference between reflection and scattering?

Yes, there is a difference between reflection and scattering. Reflection is the process where light or other waves bounce off a surface in a consistent angle, like a mirror. Scattering, on the other hand, is when light or waves bounce off in different directions due to interactions with the surface or particles.

What is difference between dispersion and spectrum?

Dispersion refers to the separation of different wavelengths of light as they travel through a medium, causing them to spread out. Spectrum refers to the range of colors produced when white light is separated into its component colors through dispersion. In essence, dispersion causes the formation of a spectrum of colors.
