A queer girl is someone who does not identify as straight, but they may not identify as lesbian either. For instance, if they love someone who identifies as gender queer or agender, then they are neither gay or straight, but queer. A girl who identifies as queer may be someone who loves women most of the time, but is attracted to a man every once in a while, or vice-versa, and does not feel that bisexual is an appropriate identity because it implies a 50-50 split in attraction. Someone who identifies as a lesbian can also identify as queer. Queer is essentially a catch-all term for anyone who is not straight.
However, for some people queer is an insult. Some people have reclaimed it, and apply it to themselves, but be careful, because it can also be deeply hurtful to some people.
