The flobert was a type of European rifle (usually French or Belgian) used for short range target shooting. They used very low powered rim fire ammunition, and the system of closing the breech is very weak. These should NEVER be fired with standard ammunition, even if it fits. Link below will take you to photos of Flobert firearms. There were also Flobert pistols.

The Flobert action was intended ONLY for shooting very low powered cartridges, such as .22 BB caps, and is not strong enough to fire modern .22 ammo safely. The value will be entirely dependent on the condition and originality of the gun. Most are not very high, selling for $50-$200, depending on exact model.
The BB Cap was the first type of rimfire ammunition. BB stands for "bullet breech." It was invented in France around 1845, designed for the Flobert indoor target rifle. Not to be confused with a BB gun.
Louis Flobert in 1845 was the first to put a ball on the end of a percussion cap and invent the self contained bullet. He went on to produce rifles and pistols that shot this round which is still produced, called now the BB cap.
The .22 long rifle cartridge originated from the Flobert BB Cap of 1845, and was developed by the J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company in 1887 by combining the casing of the .22 Long with the 40 grain bullet of the .22 Extra Long. Rifles, carbines and pistols of all shapes and sizes have been produced ever since.
Value of ANY gun is based on exact make, model, condition and originality. The Peiper .22 rifles are- for the most part- not highly collectible, and would be valued at $75-$150. Please note: SOME of these are "Flobert' rifles- intended to fire ONLY a CB cap cartridge, which has no powder- only a primer to drive the bullet. Intended for indoor target shooting, it is very dangerous to attempt to fire regular .22 ammo in one made for Flobert catridges. Please have inspected by a competent smith before shooting ANYTHING in one.
In 1845, Flobert of paris invented the .22 short cartridge. Originally for self protection, the caliber has exploded in popularity and uses.
H. Pieper made a TON of .22 rifles- value will depend on exact model and condition, and will likely need a hands on appraisal. There WERE some fireams made with a flip up style breech that were never meant to fire standard 22 ammo- but .22 BB caps (no powder, primer only) Have a smith check your rifle before firing anything- known as a Flobert or Warnant action, THOSE rifles are dangerous to fire with standard ammo.
Possibly also known as a Flobert, after the creator. These date from the 1800s, and use a rimfire cartridge with NO powder- the primer alone is the propellant. The action is not suited for use with regular ammunition. They were used as toys, indoor target shooting and for pest control much like a pellet gun. They were also used by the military as a short range training weapon.
