Had to thread through three sources to get down to this: WESTPOINT Tradename on arms made by Savage for Cotter & Company. Cotter & Company Model 949 Savage 944. No. 944 1936-42. Cotter and Company was founded by John Cotter in 1948. They have merged with True Value. Started out with 25 stores, don't see how it could be any older than the stores that sold it. (re: answer 1936-42)
The westpoint by savage model 25 is a stevens favorite/crackshot model 71 or 72. It is configured like the 72 with a chrome hammer and lever. Westpoint was brand for Cotter & co. which owned True Value hardware. They were sold from the 1970 until the 1990's
The value of a Cotter & Company Westpoint Model 50 .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle without a serial number can vary significantly based on its condition, demand, and local market. Typically, such firearms can range from $100 to $300, but the absence of a serial number may affect its collectibility and resale value. It's advisable to consult a firearms appraiser or check recent sales of similar models for a more accurate valuation.
Cotter & Company Westpoint model 40 was made by Marlin and is the same basic rifle as the Marlin model 101. It was basically a Tru-Value hardware store brand name. They typically have a lower value than the original (Marlin 101) model. Without a serial number it is a pre-1968 model, as that was required by the 1968 gun control act for all future production. The value as listed in the blue book of gun values is $45.00-$75.00. Hope this helps. GUNSLINGERS GUN SHOP THREE RIVERS, MICHIGAN
