That's an answer that will most likely vary depending on your state and locality. First and formost, if your gun is stolen you are the victim of a crime, and therefore nothing should 'happen to you'. However it is vitally important that you report a theft to the police, and have the serial numbers to include in the report. The likelyhood is that the gun will never be seen or heard from again, but in the off chance it is used in a crime you want a record of the fact it was stolen, not given. If you loan a weapon (be it a gun, Baseball bat, or kitchen knife) to anyone and it winds up used in a crime, you may be considered an accessory for providing means. Again, in matters of a legal context, ALWAYS check your local laws and regulations.
