I actually don't know for sure but my English teacher informed us that she had acid damage to her face from her father. It says something in the book about the fathering aiming for the mother and getting marina.....well he apparently had acid and went to throw it at Marina's mum but the mother ducked and Marina got the acid in her face....
i don't no if this is true because all pictures of the book her face is perfect
In the book "So Much to Tell You" by John Marsden, Marina's face is disfigured due to acid thrown at her by her father. She covers her face with a scarf to hide the scars and struggles with feelings of shame and isolation because of her appearance. Throughout the novel, Marina learns to cope with her physical appearance and begins to open up to others.
