I wouldn't recommend this coat for the snow, simply because it is not waterproof. If you had to walk a distance to where you are going, the snow would definitely soak through the fabric and make you even more cold!

Why are snow shoes worn?

If you had an icepick you could easily drive it deeply into the snow. It's so skinny that it wouldn't have to push much snow out of the way to penetrate the surface. The bigger it gets, the more snow gets compacted as it pushes on the surface. Eventually, the weight/area gets so low that it wouldn't penetrate at all.
