∙ 11y agoA filter makes it easier for a cig to be smoked. Since pre-1950 cigs didn't have filters. And when you put a nonfiltered cig in your mouth, you may get bits of tobacco in it. The filter prevents you from getting tobacco in your mouth as you smoke the cig. But the filter actually reduces the amount of nicotine in it (in a sense). Like if you tried cutting the filter off before lighting the cig, be ready to taste a stronger-tasting cig. The cig tastes stronger without a filter because cutting the filter off means the nicotine won't be blocked by a filter as you take a puff on (or suck) the cig.
