It depends on what you mean. In the U.S. most police agencies issue standard firearms to officers. In other words, if a local agency issues Sig 229 pistols to its officers, it the exact same Sig 229 that any person can go into a gunshop and purchase. There are some exceptions though. Some special duty officers such as SWAT team members, may have machine guns. A regular citizen cannot buy a new machine gun, but can buy machine guns manufactured before a certain date, but it's a long process.
