Well most of the time it means he likes you but he doesn't want his friends to know. Or maybe he's shy around your friends. At any rate, you should try holding a conversation with him in public. He might not feel as shy. But, if he rejects you it means he's embarrassed about liking you, and that's never a good sign. If that's the case do not go dating him.
