What does it mean if you have your period for 2 weeks and it is bright red with blood clots?

It can mean a variety of things. I dealt with this problem for 2 years, having heavy periods and large clots lasting for weeks. I finally had enough and went in for testing. They told me that because of a hormone deficiency my uterus prepares itself for a baby every month and makes the lining extremely thick like it would be if I was pregnant, this causes longer and heavier periods because there is so much extra to be shed from the uterus. I started on Yasmin Birth Control and the problem has corrected itself. I now have about a 6 day flow, not even close to as heavy as before, and very minimal clotting. I've only been on the pill for 2 cycles now but it has really helped. I suggest having some testing done as every situation is different. There is a similar problem you could have called endometriosis which is more serious and can cause infertility if not treated. Please take my advice and go get checked out, if all you need is birth control to take it away then great!
