What does it mean if you are 37 weeks pregnant and your midwife syas your cervix is soft?

When your midwife tells you that it means that your cervix is beginning to ripen and possibly efface and dilate. Currently im 1 cm dilated 60% effaced and have been in labor but not "active labor" for the past week. My cervix isn''t dilating so they dont consider that "active labor".

It's normal. I'm 34 weeks along and mine is too. It's just from the pressure of the baby on your cervix. No worry's though , .. Doesn't mean the baby's coming or anything.

My friend is 27 weeks and her cervix is also starting to thin. Her ob said it is likely she will deliver early. Her first baby was born @ 34 weeks but her cervix wasn't checked through that pregnancy so its hard to know if that is what happened in her first pregnancy as well. Her ob said she will probably deliver again aroung 34 weeks but hopefully closer towards 36 weeks. This doesn't mean it will happen to you. Get some expert advice from your ob or a midwife. It is most accurate to go from the first day of your last period to figure out how far along you are because babies grow at different paces in the womb and if your baby is growing a little faster at first, the ultrasound may show it as being further along than it really is. Your midwife is probably getting your due date using the last period method, so I would go with her and say that you are 7 weeks pregnant.
