It depends if you are in a relationship with him or not, if not then he clearly has a crush on you, and is to embarressed or shy to tell you to your face. If you are in a relationship with him then he clearly feels for you, as guys are not normally mushy in front of their friends. he may think you dont feel the same way, so wont do it in your presence. Go and talk to him.
