What does it feel like to get your ears pierced feel like for a 10 year old?

I got my ears pierced when I was 7 years old (10 years ago, so it's been a while) and from what I remember, it hurt..because I got it done with a gun (which you should NEVER do..) which doesn't actually remove skin, it just makes room for the jewelry (like an uninvited guest moving into a house that's already full) so it hurt much more than it should.

It was my first piercing so I had no idea what was going to happen and what to expect. I was scared and crying before and when I got them done (which doesn't really help, it's better to be calm and relaxed) and right afterwards, I turned green (because I am terrible with piercings..I have 12 now and I'm still like this, except I turn gray now :P). If your 10 year old is like this, I do advise that you bring a bottle of water with you when they are getting it done. A nice drink of cold water always gets rid of the light-headedness that always follows when I get a piercing, but they may not be like that in which case, lucky them..

As for the fear factor before the piercing is done, get them to be excited about it (sorry if I'm actually writing this for a 10 year old and not the parent, just assumed this is a parent), talk about all the earrings they will be able to wear and how pretty/cool they will look. I almost chicken out of all my piercings and I am so glad I never did, if they try to chicken out, try to encourage them with the earring thing and that it's just a pinch and it's just for a second. Don't force them, that won't help and that will make them even more scared.

OK, after all my ranting..my personal view of it is that it really isn't that painful, some say it's not painful at all (this coming from boys/girls younger than 10) and that it was a breeze. But still, take some water with you and if they have a fan, ask them to turn it on, if they feel light-headed. Always go to a professional piercer (NOT Claires, Ardene, or any other boutique that pierces people with UNTRAINED piercers and PIERCING GUNS, leads to some nasty infections which are a huge pain to deal with. Trust me, it's worth the extra couple bucks. Make sure it is a clean, reputable piercer and that they open all the tools (the needle, jewelry, etc.) infront of you. And for the healing process, they may give you something to clean it with, if not, I recommend using a saline solution twice a day (you can find how to make it online). And for further infection precautions, do not touch it unless you are cleaning it..the bacteria on your hands (even clean hands) will get into the piercing and cause an infection. And if an infection does occur, do not take the jewelry out..it will heal over and trap the infection inside. Just keep on cleaning it with the saline solution and it will be fine :]
