I always thought it implied, if I don't see you through the week, I'll see you through window, window meaning weekend as the weekend is the break in between the weeks. So I thought it meant I'll see you through the weekend days (window). Weird how many people can see things differently.
It means if I don't see you to speak to 'in person' during the following week, then I will see you when you go past my window or I'll see you when I go past your window.
The actual expression was "If I don't see you through the week, I'll see you through the window"
It is a pun on two meanings of the word "through". In the first instance meaning 'during the course of' or 'throughout' In the second as 'in one side and out the other'
This is an old expression that I recall my father and uncles using, and I use it to this day.
It's used as a humorous expression when parting from someone.
Whilst it is of older origin (I don't know source), it is one of the lines in the 1981 Bill Forsyth film, Gregory's Girl.
I have rarely heard the expression used outside of Glasgow, Scotland until after that film was released.
. It means the only reason you wonβt be seeing me is if Iβm in hospital, coming from when TB was a thing and youβd be in an isolation room and visitors could only see you through the window
