(D.G.F.M.) = Direccion General de Fabricaciones Militares or the "Military Manufacturing Agency."

(F.M.A.P.) = Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles or "Small Arms Factory"

In the 1930's, the Argentines got a license from Colt to manufacture their own .45s. They are called "Sistema Colt" to differentiate them from the Colt 1927. They were made by Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles "Domingo Matheu," in Rosario, Argentina.

An estimated 38,000 copies of the Colt M1911 .45 caliber pistol were made at Rosario, and another 75,000 were produced between 1947-1966. Almost all of these were blued, except for some that were specially ordered for the Navy. The early guns had checkered walnut grips - the later guns had hard rubber brown or black grips.
