In order to obtain wireless internet access, your laptop may or may not need the following, depending on equipment, location, etc.:
1. A Wi-fi detecting laptop (EVERY modern laptop should have this, modern meaning from this decade).
2. A Wi-fi signal (this can possibly be obtained from a neighbour's house, or possibly another source. You may use it so long as it is not guarded with a password).
If you are unable to obtain a Wi-fi signal from your neighbour's house, you must do the following:
1. Obtain a wireless internet router from an electronics store. I think I got mine at Costco for like $100, and it's pretty decent- you might want to purchase a stronger one if you know that you will use your laptop further away from the wireless router (such as an upstairs bedroom).
2. Obtain internet from a local Internet Service Provider (ISP). This can be in the form of everything from Source Cable, Rogers, and many other companies. It is strongly suggested that you get high speed internet, which will cost you approximately $40.00-$60.00/month. This can vary greatly, depending on your location and if you have any plan set up with another potential service provider (for example, Rogers has a plan that gives you TV, Internet, and phone service for something like $90.00/month, which does pay off depending on your needs.
