Like MOST states, Kansas does not require a permit or license to purchase a firearm, and there is no registration of ordinary firearms. You will need two pieces of ID that show your address- AND you must be a resident of Kansas, you must be 21 years of age, and if purchasing from a dealer, you will complete a form 4473 in the dealer's shop. The dealer conducts a computer based background check, which takes a few minutes when the system is working well. The only other paperwork is payment for the gun.

IF a buyer is from another state, but a member of the military assigned to a duty post in Kansas, they will also need a copy of their orders assigning them to Kansas (residency requirement).
