Simultaneously hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for 10 seconds until the screen turns off and shows the Apple logo. This will reset the iPod touch and force a cold boot of the device.
If your Ipod nano over heats clear out a space in one of your dresser drawers and let it sit for 30 mins (Drawer closed) after ward reset your ipod by holding down on the menu key and center button at the same time for atleast 10 seconds.
Or you can lay it down in a cool area not to cool and let it stay there for about 45 minutes. Turn on your i-pod and delete the things you have on there if you feel comfortoble doing it. Which this method is doing is clearing out anything and resetting it back to its normal form. Don't worry, you can always put back the things you had on your i-pod by getting your plug connecting both the i-pod and charger to your computer or laptop and opening up i-tunes. It should insert all your songs, games, movies, podcasts, videos, tv shows, etc. Back into your i-pod.
Hope your i-pod feels better!!
This is what happens, if it over heats it may start to melt or 'mold' inside, or the screen might stop working, the most common 1 is when your charging it and it over heats it starts to smoke

to reset your ipod push down the menu button and the ok button at the same time. note: this does not delete any of the information on your ipod
You can put the iPod in front of a fan or air conditioner to cool it quickly. You can turn it off when not in use to help it from overheating.
The iPod nano was not the first iPod; the iPod classic (at that time the iPod) was the first.
