If you have just started going out together then it's not odd in the least that he still may be confused. When two people have a relationship and may have gone together for more than a year it's difficult to walk away from a relationship and one partner can be hurt worse than the other. It sounds like she split-up from him. It hurts and he still may be reeling around wondering what he did to deserve the treatment he got from her. Give him time and patience, but it's important that you communicate with him and let him talk out his feelings. If he continues on with this and gives you little attention then split-up with him and this may be enough of a shock to make up his mind if he loves you over her.
