The Ghost of Christmas Present has reason to open his coat, Hidden beneath are a boy and girl who are in poor health and look near death. he explains that the boy is ignorance. The girl is want. He tells Scrooge to be aware most of all of the boy, Ignorance.

∙ 5y agoThey are not dolls but are children of mans making. They represent Ignorance (the Girl) and Want (The boy)
They are described as "of mans making" and represent Want (the girl ) and Ignorance (The Boy)
They are man's children. The boy represents ignorance and the girl represents want. He is warned to be cautious of both, but particularly the boy. They also symbolize a moment of irony, when the spirit quotes Scrooge's words concerning the work houses and prisons.
On page one, "I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffinnail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade". Just look for sentences with as in them and it's most likely a metaphor
The little boy with the crutch in "A Christmas Carol" is Tiny Tim.

The little boy and girl revealed from beneath the robes of the Ghost of Christmas Present. The girls represented "want" the boy represented "ignorance". The Ghost warns Scrooge to be aware of the girl but be even more aware of the boy
