Slaves of which country and when? Slaves have been kept for thousands of years, and they often ate the simplest food of the culture at the time. This was usually stale bread and possibly a small amount of old or low-quality meat, vegetables or fruit.

slaves barley got to eat anything. They got some bread and water every week
It would depend on where they were. The diet of slaves in Africa would have been different to the diet of slaves in Asia for instance
The slaves in the cotton plantations grew their own food, they were given their own plot of land to grow the food so as well as having to work all day they then had to grow and cook their own food. On this bit of land they could grow anything that they wanted to and they could also keep animals on it as well. Sometimes their owners would give them pots and pans to cook in but all of these cost money and they didn't really want to spend more money that they had to on them so in they usually had to make their own in their free time. The slave's meals wouldn't always be good, it would only be good if they had a good harvest and if they had a bad harvest then that was really bad because they would have to wait until next harvest time before they got any decent food. The slave's owner would usually give them a little meat and maybe some corn bread. Sometimes the children would go and fish in the river. They would drink water from the river and that they had to boil because the water in the river might not always be clean and unsafe unless boiled.
Which slaves? Those in ancient Rome or Greece would eat whatever their masters ate, except in a much simpler and coarser form (basically just bread, cheese, some meat if lucky and possibly old fruit). Those in the Americas at different times would be given whatever their masters decided to give them; for the most part, this was either leftivers or just the worse sections of any food they had themselves.

lima beans and bread
They ate whatever they could get their hands on.

Most slave owners did not spend too much on food for their slaves so most of what they ate would be what they could grow for themselves or what they could put in their pockets as they worked.

Most of what they ate was fatty meat and cornbread... I could suggest to you to consider what we would consider soul food... as a basis of what they ate: pig feet, collar greens, beans, fried chicken... these are considered traditional foods.. that originated during slavery.

Slaves ate whatever their owners provided at the time. That would include breads and water. Mostly- since ppl didnt think the slaves were deserving foods of different varieties, that same attidude towards them as when they even became slaves.
