Christmas is a combination of many different things. In ancient times it was the time when winter was at its peak. Midsummer's Eve and when the Christian church came along they made it in to Christmas. They used the pine tree to represent the trinity. Santa comes to us from the Dutch and the Germans. The Germans also gave us our current Christmas tree. Our red and white Santa comes out of the 1900's and a Coke Cola ad. The way we celebrate Christmas today is an out growth of the story Dickens wrote about Christmas. When the English read that in the 1800's they thought it sounded like a great idea to have a tree, presents, and dinner with all the trimmings. So, the Christmas Day celebration became a traditional event. This all happened very slowly and many things came to the United States little by little to form what we have today.
