The major effect of smoking tobacco, or any other use of it, is cancer. Tobacco use contributes to many cancers, notably lung cancer but including cancer of the gums, tongue, stomach, and bladder. As the number of smokers in the US has plunged over the years, so has the rate of people getting lung cancer. Once the number one killer cancer, lung cancer has now yielded that "honor." Smoking tobacco can also cause lung cancer in non-smokers and can provoke Asthma outbreaks in non-smokers.

It's important to not overlook what happens to the body minutes after you inhale cigarette smoke. As soon as you take your first puff, your body will experience increased blood pressure and heart rate. This may over work your heart and lead to an increased chance of having a heart attack. The increased blood flow will force your arteries to narrow, which will reduce the amount of oxygen the blood will be able to carry. In turn the carbon monoxide levels in the blood will rise, creating an imbalance with the body's demand for oxygen. As you can see smoking creates a chain reaction in the body, which is why it's so important to quit. Its true Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs; however that should be an even bigger incentive. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to finally stop smoking. Now is the time to take action. You and your family will be thankful you did.

Short-term effects of tobacco use include:

Alteration of personality

hyperactivity

aggressive behavior

low self-esteem.

great nicotine rush

increased heart beat

lower lung capacity

relaxation of nerves

dizziness

nausea

brief euphoria

increased alertness

bad breath.

Shortness of breath.

Yellow teeth.

Reduced blood oxygen absorption.

clothes smelling

Ridicule from friends (unless they do it too and they think it is "cool")

$$$$$ down the drain (I believe it is quite expensive)

Tongue issues

Being overall unattractive

Bad thing to have in an interview/date

(...and most important) NOBODY WANTS TO KISS YOU!!!

Depending on the amount you smoke, the frequency and duration (how long you do it) the effects can differ. Your health can also influence it - if you have medical problems of your own or hereditary ones.

The risks can vary and even though all of them are possible, it's not a guarantee that all of them will happen to you. Our bodies are different one from another as well as our medical history.

The universal risks and consequences are very widely ranged. Tobacco tends to mess around and alter with a lot of things health wise, from extreme cases in which it can cause death, terminal diseases and disability, to just worsening your current conditions or just tearing up your health slowly.

It usually has to have long term use in order for it to cause cancer, asthma, strokes, heart attacks, bronchitis, ulcer, infection or meningitis. But one should keep those in mind for those who are already addicted to nicotine, because that's what it will eventually do to you.

The most common thing that happens with those who use it on an average basis is addiction, worsening diseases that were already present and altering the effects of any medication you take.

If you have never smoked before. the immediate effect is to start coughing as it irritates the throat and windpipe on its way down into the lungs. Naturally we are not going to let a little thing like your body begging you stop, stop you from smoking after all what would your mates think. Once you have the coughing under control yup may be faced with dizziness's, this only last for a short while and may recur when you have not had a smoke for a while. This is often followed by more or less nausea. However with a little dedication you will overcome all of these initial reactions. and become an experienced and of coarse cool smoker. When you have reached that stage in your smoking career your immediate reaction is that by lighting up a smoke you relieve the yearning for a cigarette that your addiction has built up in you. Never mind the health benefits. I used to smoke and the way I gave it up was by sincerely trying to find something aside from satisfying an addiction ans a habit that was actually pleasant about it.

Quit Smoking by Getting Out of Town?

When you quit smoking, it's really just a three day process. Every day after that, you may want a smoke now and then, but you'll never crave a cigarette again quite like you did for those three days. One of the best ways to quit smoking is to just make sure that you don't have access to cigarettes for those three days. You can accomplish this fairly easily by taking a camping trip and not bringing any cigarettes. Just get away from tobacco for three days, and it's all downhill from there.
