Duties and Procedures of a Laundry Attendant
Collecting and Sorting
o Laundry attendants are responsible for receiving items to be cleaned as well as organizing those items according to different ways they have to be washed and always fallowing all hazardous chemical procedures
Washing and Drying
o A primary duty of a laundry attendant is washing, drying. Again, attendants must follow proper policies regarding decontamination. This includes using approved detergents and washing at required temperatures. Attendants may also have to work with dry-cleaning equipment. Working in a laundry room involves continuous physical activity and attendants are commonly required to lift as much as 50 pounds when handling laundry.
When Drying lint filters should be cleaned at least two or three times per day. Do not over dry linens; use a cool down tumbling period to minimize wrinkles. Do not leave linens in the dryer overnight, Could cause a fire.
To replace an empty chemical bucket
Wear protective gloves and glasses. Unscrew the proportioning cap connected to tubing on the empty bucket and set cap somewhere it will remain clean. Move empty bucket away from position. Set the new bucket in place with the shipping cap secured. Loosen and remove the shipping cap with the cap wrench. Screw the proportioning cap (with the tube) to the bucket and tighten. Make sure the right proportioning cap is connected to the right bucke. Screw the shipping cap from the new bucket onto the opening of the empty bucket. Dispose of the empty bucket in the dumpster.
Folding and Organizing
Linens should be folded immediately after drying or ironing to minimize wrinkles.
The person doing the folding should look for stains, excessive wear or tears and sort out these linens for additional treatment. Do not send an unacceptable piece of linen to a room and please take all caution when operating linen feeders machine and towel folders machine. If you have any question in how to operate the laundry equipments please see your immediate Supervisor or manager for further instructions.
IRONING AND WAXING
Only feed linens at the proper moisture level through flatwork iron. Keep the iron clean and do not iron dirty linens.
When waxing the ironer, please, pass the wax cloth three times on each side of the iron. Finishing running at least three to four discarded sheets to clean up the FLAT IRON.
LAUNDRY ATTENDANT RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive and sort soiled linen into appropriate containers following all safety practices.(Please Refer to step three)
· Process sorted linen utilizing the washers, dryers, sheet spreaders, ironers, and feeder/folders ensuring finished product is inspected and meets quality standards.
· Follow all hazardous chemical procedures and ensure bloodied linen does not return to supplies.

· Inspect linen on a regular basis for tears, holes or sub-standard conditions and remove from guest inventory.
· Maintain assigned work area in a clean and safe condition.
· Empty/Check lint traps after each load to ensure safety of equipment and to avoid any fire hazard.
· Notify supervisor of malfunctioning equipment, supplies needed, damaged linens, to ensure laundry operation is running at maximum efficiency level.
· Ensure linen carts are stocked and prepared to be delivered to guest room floors.
My question is. Is it Hotel standard to put condoms in every room free of charge. I do not feel this is appropriate for a hotel in any way and feel it sends the wrong message.
