What is the difference between engineer and technician?

The difference between Engineers and Technicians is not that one is more hands-on or practical than the other. Rather, the fundamental difference between the two is that Engineers develop/design systems while Technicians support those systems. As such, Engineering and Technology are complementary fields. Engineers need to start from a theoretical framework in order to develop/design systems while technicians need to understand how those systems work in order to support them. That fundamental difference between Engineering and technology not only explains how or why engineers tend to rise to top management but also gives engineers a career advancement advantage because engineers by designed manage the development and implementation of their systems, which are to be supported by technicians.

Differentiate between a career and a career field?

In order to understand the difference between a career and a career field, we need to understand what a career field is. a career field is an umbrella term for a list of related careers. In other words, a career field is a grouping of careers that are related. On the other hand, a career is a profession within which you choose to work such as User Experience Designer, Java Programmer, Social Media Manager, etc. Different careers may exist under the same career field. For example, a career in entertainment field may include careers such as: Comedian, Television Presenter, Events Manager, etc. The key difference between career and occupation is that the career is an occupation undertaken for a significant period of one’s life and with opportunities for progress whereas occupation is a person’s principal work or business, specifically as a means of earning a living. Career and occupation are two very closely related concepts that confuse many people. This is because if one looks up a dictionary, the two words are synonyms. Though there are many similarities between the two terms, there is also a subtle difference between career and occupation. We know that the occupation of a person may be farming, but that does not tell us everything about his career, which is the sum total of all his experiences, events and jobs that he may have undertaken in his lifetime.
