Drama:Its one GIANT disadvantage. Social Networking sites are only good for drama. Teenagers have been known to become extremely volatile and offended when a "friend request" is ignored. People use social networking sites to post passive-aggressive comments about each other because they feel strong and invincible being on the other side of the internet. Teenagers also use these sites to pick fights with people, attempt to steal others girlfriends, and (this is probably the main use) teenage boys struggle in failing attempts to seduce girls who post pictures of themselves in bikinis or underwear, but then get angry when people abuse them for doing so. Social Networking sites should be reserved for people aged 30 and up, so they can catch up with old college or high school friends. Teenagers, such as myself, should stay far away from them. They'll be the utter downfall of society. Design:"Social networking" sites are for the most part anything but, designed as they are to limit traffic to self-promotion (legitimate enough, but an entirely different thing) and the exchange of trivia. You're as likely to build a real social network by standing on the street with a sign reading "I'm fun! Be my friend!" They're a distraction from the internet's potential for meaningful communication, reducing individuals to anonymous needles in a gargantuan haystack of vacuous one-liners. Their effect is to neutralise creative capacity and devalue human interaction, undermining a medium which was meant to empower and connect. Their omnipresence, futility for most users and capacity for harm are a mockery of the internet's positive potential and a menace to its development. From the standpoint of a mere half-dozen years ago they represent a wholesale retreat from where we seemed to be headed. Please don't make people over 30 use them, we've done nothing to deserve it.
