I don't know what you want to compare the rifle to, to list its disadvantages.
Typically, people call most long guns a "rifle," as opposed to a hand gun (although almost all handguns have rifled barrels).
In a firefight, advantage is going to be with the person who has a long gun (rifle)--especially a high-powered, semiautomatic rifle. Maybe concealing a rifle is difficult, and it is usually heavier than a handgun. So carrying a rifle isn't always practical.
Most military people will say that you use your handgun to fight to your rifle. Meaning a handgun is better than nothing, but if you have a rifle nearby, you'd be better off using it.
