The Hazaras Are Shiite Muslims, and the Pashtuns Are Sunni Muslims. The Hazaras are not from the same part of Asia as the Pashtuns, (Not Afghani;s) and tend to look more oriental (Like Hassan.)
Because the Hazaras were not native Afghani's, they treated them like slaves, as you can probably gather from the relationship between Amirs family, and Hassans.
Afghanistan
In "The Kite Runner," racism is evident in the treatment of Hazaras, particularly through discriminatory attitudes and violence directed towards them by the Pashtuns, who view Hazaras as inferior. This is portrayed through character interactions like Assef's abuse of Hassan and Sohrab due to their ethnicity, illustrating deep-seated prejudices and divisions within Afghan society.
Pashtun-Hazara tensions have historical origins, including competition for resources, cultural differences, and past conflicts. Additionally, discrimination and prejudice have perpetuated these hostilities between the two communities.
There are seven main ethnic groups or tribes in Afghanistan including the Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, Turkmens, Nuristanis, and Baluchs.
The majority of Afghanistan's population is made up of ethnic Pashtuns, followed by Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, and Aimaks. These groups, along with smaller ethnic minorities, contribute to the diverse cultural landscape of the country.
The Hazaras were singled out for persecution in Afghanistan due to historical ethnic and religious discrimination. They belong to a minority group that has faced long-standing marginalization and oppression at the hands of the dominant Pashtun ethnic group. This discrimination has been fueled by social, economic, and political factors throughout Afghan history.
The Hazaras - book - has 431 pages.
"The Hazaras" is a novel written by Eugene Aubin and was originally published in 2001.
The Pashtuns speak Pashto.
Pashtuns (Pathans)
Most Pashtuns are Sunnis and rather religious.
The people who live close to Pak-Afgan border are called Pashtuns. Pashtuns are the important people of Pakistan and Afghanistan. They are the largest ethnic group of Afghanistan and the second largest in Pakistan. Traditionally Pashtuns of both sides never respected or recognized the border between the two countries.
