What are the advantages and disadvantages of being gay?

Advantages:

• You know who you are. You have had to examine and explore your sexual orientation, and you understand yourself in a way that many straight people do not.
• You can find love, just like a straight person can.
• You can be strong enough to come out, and make a real difference to other gay people, especially youth who are still coming to terms with their uniqueness.

• One partner's bankruptcy won't affect the other partner, in states where their marriage is unrecognized.
• Ability to have 2 head of household deductions on US federal income tax (prior to 2013)

• No accidental pregnancies
• As of 2014, you can get married and have children in many countries and 18 US states

Disadvantages (only in some states and countries):

• No marriage rights in many states
• No adoption rights in many states
• No inheritance in many states
• No hospital visitation in many states
• No recognition of relationships in many states
• No donating blood
• No right not to get fired for being gay in 29 states (as of 2013)
• You may be hated by people who don't even know you

• Some Christians "love" you but condemn your search for love and vote against your rights
• You are at risk of physical harm from bullies
• Your family might disown you
• 32 US states will not give you a marriage license (as of 2014)
• 28 US states will allow you to be fired from your job for being gay
• 83 countries will imprison you or put you to death
