How do you become a tatoo artist?

It took me ages to get an apprenticeship but the main thing to do is walk into the studio with confidence. I visited every studio in the area and handed out CVs, but that's not what they look for.1. Decide if it's really what you want to do in the future. There's no point doing it for a month and giving up.2. Choose which studios you'd like to work in. Find out how many people work there and if they are all male, all female or both. If a studio has two guys working there, they are likely to take on a female apprentice to give clients a choice of artists. A female client would prefer a female tattooist to tattoo them.3. Create a portfolio. Design ALL your own designs. Do not copy them from the Internet or steal them from other people. Tattoo artists can easily recognise if you have drawn something yourself or copied it.4. Go to the studio and ask for an APPRENTICESHIP. Don't ask for a job. Becoming a tattoo artist is NOT a job and you will NOT get paid by the studio as they teach you. You will start earning money when you start tattooing clients.Tell the studio you are:- Looking for experience, not pay- Creative and artistic- Willing and eager to learn- & that you learn fast and would provide more business to the studio5. If you manage to get an apprenticeship, pay attention to what the tattooists do. Watch how they set up and how they tattoo. Don't get in their way or offer to help because they know exactly what they're doing and will not want any distractions. Do this for a few months. Learn how to use carbon paper, clean the studio and empty the bins.6. A few months into your apprenticeship, purchase your own tattoo equipment. Tattoo artists don't often trust people with their own equipment, but ask to hold their machines to get a feel for what will be best for you to buy. Tattoo equipment is expensive but it is worth it if you stick to the career. You will need:- 5 & 7 Round Tips- A grip of your choice- Back stems- Various lining and shading needles- A tattoo machine- Clipcord- Foot pedal- Power Supply- & practice skinsAlthough you can usually buy 'Beginners' sets. The artists at the studio should let you use ink caps and ink.7. Use practice skins. Although they are nothing like real human skin, they allow you to get a feel for tattooing and for your own personal equipment.8. Practice. Becoming a successful tattoo artist doesn't happen overnight. Some people take to it quicker than others, but some people take years to get spot-on line work as well as successful shading techniques.9. Treat the other tattooists with respect. These are the people who are going to teach you all you know, so don't be rude or impatient.

Where can you get free drawing lessons online?

There are actually a lot of free drawing content out there, including demonstrations and lessons. However, the truth is that you don't get something for nothing. If you're really serious about improving your skills, you're going to have to consider that you may have to invest a little money. You can find free YouTube drawing demos where the artist is speed-drawing because he's fast-forwarding the video so you see a completed drawing in two minutes. What's that teaching you? Not much. How are you going to know how he knew to draw the line HERE and not THERE? How did the artist know how to shade just right? Is he just a magician with a pencil? NO. There are measurable techniques and guidelines anyone can learn to train their eyes to really SEE like an artist. It is NOT just an innate skill. While you can get a lot of great tips and tricks out of a book or in-person course, it's often hard to do that. A book is pretty static, with a limited number of pictures you can use to guide you, and an in-person course can be expensive, inconvenient, and STILL not give you what you're looking for. I recommend searching for reputable, solid drawing courses online. It can be convenient, cost-efficient, and pretty effective. There are quite a lot of them out there. Some guidelines for choosing good ones as opposed to fluff: 1) Make sure their explanation of the contents of their course is clear and detailed. Make sure you really understand what each lesson or module is providing. 2) Make sure the price is reasonable for your budget. A site that offers a range of pricing options can be a great find. 3) Make sure there is a continuing logic through the course. Whether the artist is offering three lessons or fifteen, make sure there's a cohesion in the entire program. You will improve your drawing skills best if each lesson builds on the previous one. In these cases, it's best to go in order through the lessons. 4) If the site seems to be offering something for nothing, chances are, they ARE. The price should be comparable for the quality of instruction they're promising. There should be a clear message that the lessons or program will not just draw something for you but will actually TEACH you how to do what the professional artist is doing. And if they're offering you free instruction or instruction that only costs a few dollars, chances are very good you won't get a lot out of it and you'll be back to hopping around the Internet looking for good instruction. 5) Look for proof of the artist's skill, either by seeing images of their work on their site or seeing before and after pictures from their students. Be smart about looking for good drawing instruction on the Internet, and you WILL find it.

What needle do you use when colouring a tribal tattoo?

for tribal tattoos you should use a nice defined line for outline with say at least a 5RL or you can use a 7RL and then fill in your black with a 9 mag. 14 mag needles are good for big areas (i speak of magnum needles because i do not prefer flat needles, however if you use flats you can use this same advice). the bigger the area the bigger the grouping of needles you can use. but you must know how to use bigger groupings of needles and have the tips for them plus know the voltage to use on them. personally i use "#10 9mag bugpins". they are wide spread groupings and smaller diameter needles which for me pack black and color very well. shade in your tribal with paint brush strokes for shade and tight circles and cross strokes for filling in black, but never overwork the tattooed area. and if your pigments arent packing into the skin then something is wrong. get new pigments then after youre done run your liner back over between the line work you did and the black filled area to complete the piece and merge the line properly to the black. beginners often forget this and leave skin color gaps around the line work of the tattoo.

Do you tip a tattoo artist?

DO tip your tattoo artist! This should be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, it's not. If you didn't know that tipping a tattoo artist is customary, YOU DO NOW! Tattoo artists DO NOT get paid an hourly wage- they earn a percentage of the money you pay for your tattoo and that's it. They depend, heavily, on tips to support themselves. You wouldn't NOT tip a waiter unless the service was really bad, would you?Your tattoo artist is marking you for life, something far more serious than even a fancy meal, so hasn't he/she earned at least the recognition that a waitperson gets? If you receive exceptional service, show your appreciation by tipping. As a general rule, tipping 10% is a MINIMUM, 15-20% is normal and anything more is considered tipping heavily. If you don't have the extra money to tip, at least explain that to your artist (they'll understand and appreciate it)- if you can, bring them a tip the next time you have a few extra dollars. Clients who are known to tip always get a little extra 'love' from their artist.

Can anyone send a photo of a Life Is Good tattoo on a male?

Some Tips: Why dont you go to google or somewhere and search up some pics you find interest in, Or if you cant find one, contact a tattoo shop to maybe show you some pictures or to draw a picture of what you want it to look like. You see i cant really search it for you because i dont know the size you prefer, or if you just want it in words, or the colors, etc... You should really talk to an artist and give him a visual image.

Ways to make tattoos less painful?

There are only few ways you can make a tattoo feel less painful. No matter what you do, it will still get swollen, and it will still itch, and it will still be painful. There are tips for the Tattoo artist that help the process of tattooing less painful. When the tattoo artist is working it helps a lot if he/she uses their other hand to stretch the skin. Stretching the skin can make it feel as if there is not that much pressure added to the needles. The tattoo artist can also get a spray bottle and put cold water in it. When he/she gives your skin a rest from tattooing and swelling, they should spray the area with cold water and wipe it down a little. This helps the area of the heated skin, cool down. There are products that you can buy that i have seen on a couple of tattoo websites. Ointments that help numb the tattoo. Although it sounds really nice, a lot of tattoo artist dont use it. I myself stick with A & D ointment, but the ointment that is used for numbing is very expensive. You want to make sure that you also don't drink while getting a tattoo. A lot of people get drunk so they don't "feel" the pain, but that can make it worse. When you drink it thins out your blood, and when your blood gets thinner you bleed more. Not only will it make it feel worse once your sober, but it will give your tattoo a bigger chance of not coming out so good.
