What are some advantages and disadvantages of Sub-Machine Guns?

Advantages:

• Compact
• Concealable
• High rate of fire

Disadvantages:

• Effective combat range generally limited to less than 100 meters
• Pistol cartridges used in SMGs don't offer the best penetrating or stopping power
• They tend to use long magazines which load from the bottom of the weapon, and this makes them difficult to use in the prone position (some exceptions to this are the Australian Owen with a top mounted magazine, and the MP28, STEN, Patchett, and Sterling SMGs, which use side mounted magazines)
