A chamois (pronounced, more or less, "shammy" or "shamwa") is a goat-like animal, whose skin was used to make a kind of leather that was very smooth and absorbent and was used for cleaning, buffing, and polishing (also for gloves and jackets). Genuine chamois cloth is still made this way.
Artificial "shammies" are made of pig or goat skin, or entirely from synthetic materials (usually poly(vinyl alcohol) or viscose rayon).
They are not just towels they are shams or shammies, you can wring them out and they are totally dry. They dry your skin off much faster than regular towels and do not become soaked.
Duh... To save money and save America. To stop wasting and go green. To stop buying paper towels. To not use an article of clothing or wash cloth leaving it smell like "pledge" after washing it. Put those socks that have lost there mate to good use (cotton's best). If it's a long sock you can get a lot of use out of it. Then rinse it, dry it and use it again. Stop spending money on things you don't need like shammies made in Germany, New Zealand, or China. Read the label. BUY: "MADE IN AMERICA" OR "UNION MADE"!
These towels are actually called "shammies" they are quick absorbent towels that help athletes dry off quickly and are generally used by those in aquatic events.
Made
"Made of" and "Made from" can mean the same thing. "That can is made from aluminum." "That can is made of aluminum." However, they can't be used the same in every situation. You can say: "That house is made of wood and made from workers." But you can't say: "That house is made of workers and made from wood."
