Due to the range of shotguns and rifles that shotguns have more useless range than rifles. Shotguns have very poor bullets due to close range weapons. They can only shoot at the maximum range of 50 meters to 125 meters away while rifles can shoot at the maximum range of 800 meters to 1, 400 meters away. Some rifle can reach up to 1, 000 meters to 2, 200 meters away. Shotguns are only for close range combat while rifles are for long range combat. Rifles have more useful range than shotguns. Rifles are much more powerful and 4 to 5 times more accurate than shotguns. Shotguns are less accurate and have extremely poor penetrating power to body armor while rifles have excellent penetrating to body armor.

Never put more than one pellet in the barrel of a rifle at any time. Break barrel rifles only hold one pellet for each shot. Very simply put, a rifle is designed to shoot accurately at a longer distance and bullets fired from a longer barrel will travel further with more acccuracy.
When compared to early rifles, present day rifles are smaller, lighter, less expensive, more accurate, have a greater range and fire much more quickly.

For me to determine the estimated value of the Crosman 140, you would have to give more information about the condition of the rifle. If I ask you how much is my 57 Chevy worth? You would ask "What condition is it in? is it still working? It's the same with air rifles or any antique. Is it in Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good or Excellent condition. Does it still hold air and shoot? Without more information it is not possible to answer your question.

"IE front yard" however I do shoot in the back yard out of the view of the public. I always use a pellet trap. I own several air guns. Lets just say more than 20, BB guns and spring powered air rifles I shoot in the back yard.
