There were several firearms which had the M1917 nomenclature applied to them, none of which were semi automatic rifles. The M1917 Browning machine gun was a belt fed, liquid cooled machine gun. The M1917 rifle was a bolt action rifle, based on a British design, which, in turn, was essentially a knockoff of the Mauser. M1917 was the nomenclature given to a variant of the Chauchat produced in .30-06 for US forces. M1917 was also a nomenclature given to a .45 ACP revolver manufactured by Smith & Wesson. I would be prone to believe you were referring to the machine gun, except no semi-automatic models were ever made that I'm aware of. Could you send some photos of this rifle (email address is listed on my bio page), so that we could determine for certain what it is and ascertain its value from there?
It was made in 1914 and that's not RV it's RW for Remington Works.
