Do you think gay talent agent Henry Willson (who picked "Troy"s name and made Rock Hudson a star) was helping him out of the kindness of his heart? He had an infamous casting couch. You played, you got parts. The 1950's pretty boys were all his clients- Rock Hudson, Tab Hunter, Robert Wagner. Rock Hudson even told friends he had sex with Troy Donohue but was disappointed by his endowment. Yes, I know he had wives (Suzanne P. lasted a few months) but I have no reason to think he wasn't just another closet case.

There is a quote attributed to Troy Donohue "I wound up in a pile at Henry's" that supposedly refers to Donohue getting involved in a gay orgy at Henry Willson's. On the other hand, Troy Donohue's long time live-in companion was Zheng Chow, a female Chinese Opera star.

Troy Donahue was my next door neighbor in Hollywood during the mid 1970's. I do not believe he was gay. I knew one of his former girlfriends, and he was known to favor sex with ladies in public places like laundromats. One day I saw Troy dressed only in very short sorts, standing in the street and seeming to be getting off on all the girls driving past who recognized him and squealed. He had a big, white Irish Sheep Dog that he walked past my window every evening, but otherwise seemed to keep to himself. His career was essentially over by then, but he was still appearing in minor roles on TV and in films.
