The most damning loss in MY opinion to Lee and his campaign was the loss of Longstreet. But ultimatley his greates contributions came AFTER the war. He and his former "enemies" went about the rebuilding of the nation as smoothly and gently as could be reasonably expected. His involvements in the education fields proved MOST admirable and successful. His love for Virginia and the loss of his campaign in the civil war are NOT one and the same! Were it not for Virginia seceding and being attacked, R.E. Lee would have been the greatest general of the war; possibly in our nations history. His single greastest achievement was what he brought with him whether he felt it or not; HOPE!

In the pioneer days, pioneer homes were not like ours. Their houses were called log cabins. Their homes were often one room cabins. The houses were sometimes made out of logs, mud, and tree bark. If a town had a sawmill, then logs could be cut and the wood used in the houses' construction. Then they were more likely to build two story homes. Pioneers were more likely to have wood floors instead of dirt floors. There was little machinery so they had to work very, very hard. The men did most of the work that was outside of the house.The boys would work for about 12-14 hours a day then come home and do some of the other work by a lamp. The women did all of the work in the house. The women did the cooking and lots of other things. They worked hard too. Girls would know how to be a mother by the age of six. Lots of times the kids got very, very sick, and back then they did not have very many medicines. So a lot of time they used herbs and other plants. There were not a lot of doctors so a lot of times the pioneers died when they got sick, because the doctors had most of the medicine. Church was a important thing in the olden days.
