Under the English monarchy of Louis XV, men began to wear silks, velvets and large wigs. The main influence for this shift in the dress was Madame Pompadour, who was a mistress of Louis XV.
They did because of the Age Of Exploration which was a time when the countries began sailing to find gold silks and spices.
They wore very rich material, like silks, velvets and furs! They also had padding in the clothes to make them look chubby! They even had padding on the old deriair. (but it depended on what Henry viii wanted them to wear! ;P)
