Pick-up lines usually never work cause they are all incredibly cheezy! just talk causally bout school and other things, shallow things. Then when you kinda know her just ask her out! You wouldn't belive how many times this works.

Instead of using pickup lines, focus on starting a genuine conversation with her. You could ask about a homework assignment, comment on something happening in class, or simply introduce yourself. Being friendly and approachable will likely make a better impression than a cheesy pickup line.

No I do not believe it is wrong. What you are basically saying is that the girl is not interested so it wouldn't really bother her. And that the ex-boyfriend is not his friend. Thus making him completely free for you to date without any drama from either.
