Generally people don't have the right to carry firearms into places like schools or churches. You never have the right to carry a firearm into a church as it is private property and common sense would tell you that you can't carry a gun into a school, given the shootings at Columbine HS, Northern Illinois University, and Virginia Tech. As far as having the gun on your person, EXCLUDING those places, it really depends on the state. I know that Idaho, and some other western states allow you to carry a sidearm into public places who's income isn't solely based on alcohol (ie: Wal-Mart, restaurants, etc.), as long as you aren't drinking alcohol, and the weapon is holstered and is in plain view.
I agree that having security personnel on school campuses would help to deter and take down shooters but don't think teachers should carry guns in the classroom.

No.
In a number of religions it is important that people be buried in "hallowed" or holy ground. Since the churches were consecrated the area around them (or even inside them) was considered holy and therefore proper places for people to be buried. It was also convenient not to have to carry the bodies of the deceased all over the place to bury them.
