Anytime a person vomits there is a risk of aspiration (pulling in) of vomit into the lungs. This risk is great when a person has passed out from alcohol. Aspiration can cause death, or aspiration pneumonia that can cause death.

Anytime friends are with a drunk person, the friends should make sure the person lies on his/her side with pillows behind the back.

If a person vomits, immediately roll the person onto the side, especially if unconscious or impaired by drugs or alcohol.

If an alcohol-impaired "sleeping" person vomits, you should call 911. If they have trouble breathing, especially after vomiting, call 911 immediately. This can be a life-threatening situation and one that friends should not ignore.

There may still be vomit lodged in their throat or possibly this could be from the alcohol in their system the best way to be sure is to take them to a medical examiner ASAP.
