This question is probably mostly a matter of opinion, so there's really no right or wrong answer. However, in many, many polls of this topic, the majority of voters think Marijuana / Cannabis should be legalized.
A few facts about Marijuana:
1. It is not possible to overdose on Marijuana, however, over 50,000 people in the USA die each year because of alcohol poisoning and over 400,000 people die from tobacco use.
2. There are more arrests in the USA for Marijuana than for all other violent crimes combined! These crimes include robbery, assault, murder, and rape! It's pretty crazy that murders and rapists run free while Marijuana smokers are being arrested left and right, don't you think?
3. Marijuana has TONS of medical benefits that people are missing out on because of the prohibition of Marijuana. Marijuana is much safer AND much more effective for many illnesses than a lot of normally prescribed medications. Some typical medications have side effects that are worse than your illness. Marijuana has no harmful side effects. There is even research being done that is saying Marijuana may actually protect the body from some types of malignant tumors!
4. Marijuana's current legal status in the USA was founded on racism and hate. A brief look at the history of Marijuana prohibition will educate you in this. Some of the most despicable and racist comments came from a man named Harry J. Anslinger in the 1930s who said,
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others." "…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races." "Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men." "Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."
Ultimately, this question IS opinion based, but when a person educates themselves well about Marijuana, most people agree that Marijuana should, in fact, be legalized.
