Well now. This has been a raging sociological debate for years now, where have you been? The typical "nuclear" family of the 50's has gone the way of the DoDo bird, and yes, families are now scattered to the four winds, it seems. Generational differences, technology, geographic location, finances, even religion can, and have all played a part in this evoloutionary process. I'm not sure from your question if you feel that this is a negative or a positive outcome? For me, it has it's benefits. But to bring families closer, we would need to address so many different aspects of modern day lifestyles, that I fear there is not enough room here to discuss it. If it's your own family you are feeling the loss of, I would simply suggest reaching out to them. If this is some broader question you are asking, hit your local bookstore, and be prepared to read--alot. If you find the answer, you may just win the Nobel... by rpk
