The Philippines is known as the Pearl of the Orient Seas.
It is called the Orient Express.
Another way of saying east and west is the Orient and the Occident. Since Asia is to the east of Europe, Europeans (and North Americans who are descended from European colonists) often refer to Asians as orientals, meaning people who come from the Orient.

Oriental was a term used long ago to describe someone from the "orient". The orient was Japan, and China. Nowadays we don't refer to people from China or Japan as being from the "orient" if we do not know whether they are Japanese, or Chinese, or Taiwanese, we say they are "Asian"

Most of European languages has equivalent term. Extreme-Orient is for French which is also the national language of twenty nine (29) countries.
