Rifles today are made in many different styles, and have many different parts- far too many to name here. However, in the early days of muzzle loading firearms, there were 3 main components- the stock (wooden part you hold against your shoulder) the barrel, and the lock- the part with the trigger and hammer. The term "lock, stock, and barrel" moved into the language meaning the whole, entire thing.
