If there is music that is not on your computer or synced to your computer the computer will replace it with things it recognizes AKA music on your computer. to fix go on your ipod menu in itunes and click do not auto sync when plugged. also click manually manage music and you can put on your music from your computer on your ipod and be happy.

I usually just turn it off and on and it works. If you can't even do that, then plug it into the computer using the charging cord or plug it into a charger even if it already is charged. Your iPod should work after that.

I'm not sure how to fix this :-/ but the same thing happened to me. If it still plays music, then do what I did, and put the iPod on the main playlist and listen to the songs without scrolling through them. I had the same problem on my iPhone4s. I had inadvertently changed a setting. Go to SETTINGS | MUSIC, scroll down to "GROUP BY ALBUM ARTIST" and make certain it is turned OFF. Did this fix the problem? It did for me. Have a great day!
